After directing a ball at one of the lines' referees, during his match with Spaniard Pablo Carreño Busta at Flushing Meadows, Serbian Novak Djokovic, the world number one, was excluded from the US Open Tennis Championship, one of the big four tournaments.

Djokovic commented on his account in "Instagram" on this decision, saying: "This situation left me sad. I was reassured about the line rule and they told me she was fine." I am very sorry that I caused her such pressure, which was unintended, and I will not reveal her name to respect her privacy.

He added, commenting on his Instagram account: “As for my exclusion from the match, I need to go back and work on my disappointment and turn all this towards growth and development as a player and a human being. I apologize to the US Open tennis tournament and everyone affected by my behavior, and I am very grateful to my team and my family for their support for me, and my fans for always standing by me and by my side, and thank you. I'm so sorry".

Djokovic lost his serve in the 11th game, leading Busta 6-5 in the first set. When the Serbian headed to sit down, he directed a ball that was still in his hands strongly towards the back of the stadium, violently hit one of the lines' rulers, which released a strong cry and fell in pain after being hit in the neck.

Djokovic went to the referee to see if she was okay, and after a few minutes she got up and was off the field.

After 10 minutes of consultations with the main referee, the referee decided to declare Carinho Busta the winner of the match.
